In the spirit of Melanoma Awareness Week, once again we proudly sponsored Melanoma New Zealand’s ‘Get Spotted’ competition in November. This initiative not only aims to raise awareness about the dangers of UV radiation throughout New Zealand, but also rewards schools for their commitment to sun safety. We are thrilled to share the exciting news that Te Kura o Te Kauaeranga - Thames South School emerged victorious in this year’s competition, winning a shade sail designed and built by us, with a value of $20,000.

A Fun and Educational Experience

Melanoma New Zealand said of their entry: “Te Kura o Te Kauaeranga demonstrated exceptional effort and creativity in their competition entry, turning it into a fun, memorable, and highly educational experience for the entire school. Their commitment to learning how to protect themselves from UV radiation truly stood out, making them the deserving winners of the Get Spotted Competition”.

Overcoming Challenges

Thames South School are particularly excited about their win as their previous shade sail fell victim to this year’s cyclone, leaving a play area in need of post-remedial work and two new shades. Lidgard Shades is stepping in to make a significant difference by replacing two steel posts, re-fixing one foundation, and installing two brand-new shade sails. This not only ensures a safer outdoor environment for the students but also contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal of the school grounds.

Anticipation for the New Year

We’re looking forward to sharing the progress and transformation of Te Kura o Te Kauaeranga’s outdoor space in the new year. The collaborative effort between Lidgard Shades and the school promises to create a vibrant and shaded area where students can learn, play, and thrive while staying protected from harmful UV rays. It’s a real honour for us to play a part in enhancing the school's outdoor environment, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable space for students and staff alike. Stay tuned as we embark on this exciting journey with Te Kura o Te Kauaeranga in the upcoming year!
